Canada Day Weekend Garden

Another weekend, another set of pictures of what's up in the garden…

It was a long weekend, so we both did some gardening.  CC pruned the Bonsais and showed me how he does them - he makes it look so easy!  I was even allowed to cut a few little branches myself but decided to let him do all the work as he's faster and I didn't want to screw anything up.  He also pruned some of the Redbud branches on the smaller trees, to let more light into the back yard.  Unfortunately, this is the time of year when there is not a lot in flower in the garden, so that's when it's important to have plants with interesting leaves or seeds.  It has also been Grackle-palooza in the back yard.  The parents and their bossy, noisy young have been hanging out in the back looking for food.  They are quite funny to watch as they spend a lot of time on the ground walking in and out of the jungle-like garden.  I also potted up some succulent off-shoots in hopes of giving some away to friends once they take.

  1. Love the photos. What kind of camera do you use?

  2. It's a Nikon D3100. It was a gift for my 50th birthday. I did some research into it, and even though there is now a D3200, most online critics said the D3100 was perfectly fine. It came with a big lens out front which makes it a bit cumbersome, but it does take great pictures, and because it is a SLR, what you see is what you get in terms of the framing of the picture. I like looking through the viewfinder much better than a screen on the back of the camera.
